That's why our system is built on excellence instead of volume. No matter how skilled the provider, doing things right simply requires adequate time. As a patient you know this because you’ve likely been to several different providers who got different bits and pieces of your story. They gathered where your primary symptom existed but probably not what your less severe but likely relevant issues were. ⁠
⁠
They heard the story of how you tweaked your back last weekend but didn’t get the full understanding that it is only the most recent flare up of an ongoing issue that began with an injury 5 years ago and has been evolving. ⁠

They asked about goals and know you want to “get back to the gym” but don’t realize you have been experiencing leakage during jumping movements and that is a big part of what is holding you back, maybe even more so than the back pain. ⁠

We use the “Return On Investment” talk regularly.  Which option gives you what you want in the end? Find that option, and ride it for a long, long time. ⁠

Put your time and your money into the best ROI, that’s diet, sleep, and stress reduction. . . ⁠
⁠
Optimizing recovery leads to continued performance gains, injury reduction, and even mental preparedness for fitness. ⁠
⁠
This post isn’t saying “don’t use your massage gun”. ⁠
⁠
But this post is SAYING LOUDLY that sleep, diet, and stress management need to be prioritized to see real change. . . ⁠
⁠
We love the “short term” options immediately before training or after. Maybe toss some in with a Netflix session and you’ll be good. ⁠
⁠
The “long term” options need to become a lifestyle. Commit, and you’ll be happy. ⁠

This weekend at the 2022 ICE Sampler, Dr. Jake Lockert, PT, DPT (@jakelockert), director of programming at Mayhem Athlete, will speak to attendees about Mayhem's "Hierarchy of Fitness" 

Regardless of where your patient or athlete falls on the fitness spectrum, there is a place for them in Mayhem programming. Whether they are working on basic walking conditioning, looking for workouts they can do at home with minimal or no equipment, or ready to try out a 30 or 60 minute CrossFit style workout at home or in the gym, Mayhem Athlete has it all

It's time to put an end to the endless stacks of paper handouts or repeating the same few boring workouts over and over at home after discharge from physical therapy. It's time to erase "but my patients can't do that" from existence by plugging them into Mayhem Athlete at the end of formal physical therapy

Beginning with the 2022 ICE Sampler this weekend, attendees at ICE courses will receive a free month of Mayhem programming and be able to access all eBooks & tracks not only for themselves, but to recommend and introduce to their patients as well. Each track includes a warm-up, skill instruction, workout instruction (included recommended scaling & modifications), and cool-down. Each section has supporting videos from Mayhem Athlete coaches like @tasiapercevecz & @ellykabboord so that you and your patients are able to hit a workout anywhere while still having access to world class coaching & instruction

We're pumped to kick off "Mayhem Monday" beginning Monday, May 2nd at 12 PM EST! Tune in to ICE social media to find out more about Mayhem Mondays.

Sick of pain with deadlifting? Tried physical therapy before with no results?⁠
⁠
This client came in with the primary complaint of low back pain from deadlifting over the past 8 years significantly limiting her performance and ability to make strength gains. ⁠
⁠
She had “failed” physical therapy with multiple providers and had seen limited results. ⁠
⁠
So what was the first thing we did in her session? We deadlifted! ⁠
⁠
The image on the left was her deadlift setup which caused 5-6/10 pain in her low back with just an empty bar. After reviewing a video of her deadlifting together, coaching her through the movement, and making a few tweaks to her technique we got the image on the right. ⁠
⁠
With this setup, she was able to deadlift 55# for multiple reps with 0/10 pain in her back! ⁠
⁠
This is the perfect example of COACH FIRST, TREAT SECOND. We were able to completely eliminate her pain in one session simply by coaching her through the movement, and now she’s hitting PRs every time she touches the bar. ⁠
⁠
At Onward, we do things differently. We watch you deadlift because you have pain with deadlifting. We coach first and treat second. ⁠

Adding in glute strengthening specifically is one area we see have a very positive impact on performance for runners.
