HSA typically comes with a low premium so your month to month payments for insurance won’t cost you an arm and a leg.  They do have higher deductibles, BUT if you are healthy and take good care of yourself, you’ll only spend money when you need to.  Plus, you won’t have to pay for big insurance plans that you never use!

FACTS:

✅ Exercise has great pain inhibition effects. ⁠⁠
✅ Pumping blood into an area helps with inflammation. ⁠⁠
✅ Loading tissues appropriately helps the healing process. ⁠⁠
✅ Exercise has wonderful health benefits that shouldn't be stopped.⁠⁠

If you never expose your body to the thing that hurt it in the first place, sure, you might feel a little better temporarily.⁠
⁠
But what happens when after resting for a few weeks, you try and dive back into your old fitness routine? Now what?⁠
⁠
Now you've spent weeks deconditioning, and the original thing is still painful because the root cause was never addressed. ⁠
⁠
For example, if you hurt your back deadlifting or your knee running, and it was related to your form or positioning, how could we expect this to improve without addressing your movement patterns? How could we expect to make any sort of meaningful change by just avoiding the thing for a few weeks?⁠
⁠
If a provider tells you to rest and wait it out without actually examining the movements or positions that bothered you in the first place, it might be time to seek out someone who understands your goals.⁠

2️⃣ Imaging seems like it would be helpful for getting to the root cause, the only problem is- it isn't. Don't believe us? Every clinical practice guideline across the globe agrees that you should avoid imaging for back pain (and they say you should exercise too!)⁠

3️⃣ Pain is a complicated output by our brain that takes into account much more than purely the amount of tissue damage present. ⁠
⁠
4️⃣ No evidence shows one posture is better than another posture. “Your best posture is your next posture” – try not to stay in any single posture for longer than 20-30 minutes.⁠

5️⃣ Core strengthening IS helpful and IS a piece of the puzzle⁠
⁠
BUT⁠
⁠
It’s never been shown to prevent back pain and research shows that general exercise is just as effective as specific core training.⁠

Stiff upper back?

Improving your thoracic spine mobility and strength is crucial for overhead lifts such as overhead press, push press, push jerks, snatches or overhead squats. Lack of mobility in the thoracic spine can also be a contributing factor to shoulder and neck pain. 

Here you see a drastic improvement in mobility after a band assisted stretch followed up by some active rotation work.  A couple of minutes of targeted work yielded improved ability to access this range of motion for the workout afterwards.
