At Onward, we believe it’s important to strengthen our spines into multiple positions. One important position being flexion, or bending over.

This exercise is called the Jefferson Curl. It is intended to be done with submaximal resistance. We often utilize it to improve lumbar mobility, neurodynamic mobility and strength when appropriate.

If you are struggling with squat depth or form, swipe through this post to learn about @versalifts !

Ankle mobility is a common restriction that limits the ability of your knees to drive forward as you squat. When that is limited, it results in a more forward torso angle. You can get away with it during the back squat, but it gets increasingly more challenging when performing front/overhead squats.

We often help improve ankle mobility here at Onward with progressive loading and mobility drills, but we also LOVE this product called Versalifts. They fit right in your shoes that you are already working out in and creates an immediate change in position as seen above!! #DEPTHMATTERS

Injuries happen & it's incredibly easy to get sucked into the spiral of feeling bad for yourself, frustrated that you can't do what you used to or angry at the thoughts of losing your fitness. If you're exercising regularly at high intensities and pushing your limits, it's not unreasonable at some point you'll experience a minor tweak or injury. ⁠

This doesn't mean your fitness journey halts or worse, reverses. At Onward, we find ways to keep you pushing forward. Let's keep your intensity and fitness as high as possible while we tackle a few weaknesses. Now's the time to not just get better, but better than ever.💪⁠

Feeling tight on the front of your hip? Try this exercise!

Using a light weight, slowly lower your foot toward the floor. Be sure to keep your back flat on the bench. This strengthens the hip flexor muscle into a stretched position.

Medication and injections don’t decrease vulnerability, they hide it. 

Pain isn’t a signal we should be buying chemicals to numb, it is a message that your system isn’t currently able to handle the demands being placed upon it. Pain gives us valuable information about what our tissue capacity is and how much challenge our body can currently tolerate. 

Unfortunately people in pain often choose to either decrease the demands placed on their body (read: stop doing what things they enjoy), or use chemicals to temporarily remove the signal so they can ignore it. ⁠ ⁠ 

The first choice drastically decreases quality of life, the second one allows these tissues to continue failing leading to chronic injuries. Instead how about we use your pain as the valuable feedback it is while we create a system so strong that such feedback is no longer needed. Let’s stop masking your vulnerability, let's eliminate it⁠ ⁠ #PourConcrete⁠
