We know you've got goals, and your goals don't just stop because you're working through an injury.

At Onward, don't expect to be given the dreaded sentence of resting while you're recovering. Our goal is to maximize your fitness while you continue to push towards your goals.

We'll modify where we need to, push where we can, and make sure you have ways to keep driving your performance forward during this process.

This is what the medical world should strive to do, but so often falls short. We’re here when you are ready for a completely different experience. Shoot us a DM to get started!

We’re always baffled when we hear people try to justify the use of medications and surgery to address musculoskeletal conditions. They invariably say something along the lines of “Physical Therapy, pain medication, and surgery can all help to decrease pain”. Ok we’ll give it to you that pain medication can do a good job masking symptoms in the short term, and the forced rest (and often pain medication) that comes along with surgery can do the same.

But have you thought about the bigger picture?

Have you ever seen someone drugged up on opioids crush a hard workout?

Have you ever heard a surgeon recommend getting after intense gym sessions in the week following a procedure?

Maybe medical interventions can trick the nervous system into pain reduction, but they also come not only with very real risks like surgical complication, long term addiction, and G.I. bleeds, but also with what might be the greatest risk of all: forced rest and deconditioning.

The more we learn about the profound positive effects of moderate to intense physical activity on every system of the human body, the more we appreciate the damaging effects of avoiding it. When you choose physical therapy to address your pain not only do you get the desired pain relief, but you are also encouraged to maintain or elevate your level of physical activity. In fact, we work endlessly to modify your routine around your injury to make sure not a single workout gets missed because we know the profound benefits of every gym session.

Choosing rehab not only avoids the obvious side effects of medical intervention, but it also avoids the less discussed but perhaps even more profound side effects of forced rest and sedentary behavior.

What pain or issues are you having that’s keeping you from your fitness goals?

Far too often, the medical world’s answer to a training injury is to stop or rest.

At Onward, we believe that an injury shouldn’t completely derail your fitness journey. There are several tactics we can use to maximize your training without exacerbating an injury.

Plus exercise has some really positive benefits when you are in pain:
✅ Exercise has great pain inhibition effects.
✅ Pumping blood into an area helps with inflammation.
✅ Loading tissues appropriately helps the healing process.
✅ Exercise has wonderful health benefits that shouldn't be stopped.

🚨🚨🚨 Rest is rarely the answer. 🚨🚨🚨

Use these six strategies to keep your training up while letting injured tissues recover.

1. Adjust the range of motion
2. Adjust loading
3. Use exercise variations
4. Train the uninjured side
5. Unload irritated tissues

Ready for a different approach to rehab? Shoot us a DM to get started today!

Medication and injections don’t decrease vulnerability, they hide it. Pain isn’t a signal we should be buying chemicals to numb, it is a message that your system isn’t currently able to handle the demands being placed upon it. Pain gives us valuable information about what our tissue capacity is and how much challenge our body can currently tolerate. Unfortunately people in pain often choose to either decrease the demands placed on their body (read: stop doing what things they enjoy), or use chemicals to temporarily remove the signal so they can ignore it. The first choice drastically decreases quality of life, the second one allows these tissues to continue failing leading to chronic injuries. Instead how about we use your pain as the valuable feedback it is while we create a system so strong that such feedback is no longer needed. Let’s stop masking your vulnerability, let's eliminate it #PourConcrete
