Meet The Team
Dr. Emily Wright Wolfram is a physical therapist who specializes in orthopedics and pelvic health. Emily received her doctorate in physical therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University, and she holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the State University of NY at Geneseo.
As a fitness-forward PT, Emily draws from her experiences competing in CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting, and racing internationally as a 6-time member of the US National Kayak Team. She is a Level 2 CrossFit trainer who has been coaching for 9 years and has completed additional coaching education in Olympic Weightlifting.
Emily is especially passionate about treating pregnant and postpartum athletes, helping them remain strong and empowered throughout their pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
When not treating patients, you can find Emily on her farm in Rockville, VA with her husand Mark, their 4-month old daughter, and many animals. Emily and her husband proudly hail from Western NY State (Buffalo/Rochester) and enjoy traveling to visit family and cheering for the Bills.
Dr. Helen Shepard is a physical therapist, board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist, a certified strength and conditioning specialist, and is certified in dry needling. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of the Pacific in 2017 and Bachelor of Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she graduated with highest honors. Helen is a graduate of VOMPTI’s Orthopedic Residency program and passed her Orthopedic Clinical Specialist board examination in 2022.
In addition to treating patients, Helen is an Assistant Professor at South University, teaching Anatomy and Physiology as well as several courses in the Physical Therapist Assistant program. She believes in individualized patient care tailored to each patient’s symptoms, situations, and lifestyles. Helen values listening to her patients’ stories and conducting in-depth assessments that allow her to focus on functional interventions to decrease pain and maximize patients’ potentials. When she’s not teaching or treating patients, you can find her cheering on the Tarheels, exploring local breweries with her husband, Austin, and dog, Ryman.
Dr. Mark Gallant is a physical therapist, board-certified orthopedic specialist, Fellow of the American Academy of Manual Physical Therapist, and certified in dry needling in Richmond, VA. Mark received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion in 2012 and Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech in 2008 where he graduated summa cum laude. In 2017, Mark graduated from Evidence in Motion’s Orthopedic Residency program and passed his Orthopedic Specialist Exam. He immediately enrolled in Evidence in Motion’s manual therapy fellowship program which he completed in the fall of 2019.
In addition to owning and operating Onward Richmond, Mark serves as a teaching assistant for the Institute of Clinical Excellence (ICE), where he travels the country teaching how to better manage neck and back pain, as well as advanced manual therapy courses, such as spinal manipulation. Mark has been thoroughly trained through ICE and has a unique treatment style, combining the use of skilled hands-on techniques, as well as progressive exercise, in order to help you achieve your goals and improve your overall well-being. Outside of the clinic, you can find Mark attending live music with his wife Liz and hanging with his dog Remus.
